What to arrange for the wedding: Key milestones

• 12+ months ahead: Choose the date, budget, wedding style and make preliminary reservations for key vendors (venue, photographer, catering).
• 9-12 months ahead: Choose wedding dresses and suits, engagement photo shoot, compile a preliminary guest list.
• 6-9 months ahead: Finalize vendor selection (DJ/band, decorations, makeup artist, baker), choose rings, send Save the Dates.
• 3-6 months ahead: Wedding invitations, accessories (shoes, jewellery), hair and makeup trial, choose flowers.
• 1-3 months ahead: Wedding day schedule, seating plan, confirm RSVPs, final dress fitting.
• Last week: Relax, beauty treatments, pick up the dress, final details with vendors.

A transparent wedding budget is essential. Always set a realistic limit and divide it into categories. Here are tips on where you can save:

• Prioritisation: Decide what's most important to you (e.g. photography, food) and invest more there.
• Guest count: Fewer guests = lower costs for catering, drinks and venue.
• Off-season/weekday: Wedding venues and vendors are often cheaper outside peak season or on weekdays.
• DIY elements: Get creative with decorations or wedding favours.
• Online wedding invitations: Save on printing and postage.

Choosing a wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions, as photos are the only tangible memories you'll keep from your wedding day.

• Photography style: Do you prefer documentary, styled, or natural photographs? Browse the photographer's portfolio.
• Experience and references: Ask about experience photographing weddings and read reviews from previous clients.
• Personal rapport: You'll spend the whole day with the photographer. It's important that you click and feel comfortable with them.
• What the price includes: Find out exactly what's in the package (hours, edited photos, prints, gallery, travel).
• Contract: Always insist on a written contract specifying all terms.
